James Thompson was called to the Bar in 2019, and practices principally in common law. He regularly appears in hearings and interlocutory applications in the Supreme, District and Local Courts of New South Wales, as well as the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal. James appears for plaintiffs and defendants, both led and unled.

Since being called to the Bar, James has developed a busy practice across various practice areas, with a focus on common law and administrative law. He has a particular interest in tort law, and regularly appears in common law damages claims arising from negligence, intentional torts, historical sexual abuse, motor accidents and workplace injuries. James also appears in property damage, insurance, and building and construction disputes.

Outside of the law, James is a keen follower of rugby union, rugby league and cricket.
